Trina Storage to supply and integrate 50MW BESS for Temporis Capital and Clarke Energy

Trina Storage, Trina Solar’s energy storage unit, is set to deliver a 50MW/100MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Scottish Highlands.
Trina Storage has entered into construction contracts with investment manager Temporis Capital and Clarke Energy, which will provide the EPC wrap for the project, dubbed the Boat of Garten BESS. Tom Harada, investment director for Temporis Capital, noted that this is the firm’s first BESS project, one of three being developed with its funds.
The site is scheduled to begin operations in Q1 2026. Trina is supplying its fully integrated Elementa solution for the project, which was developed by Gigabox Developments, a utility-scale BESS developer that purports to have a 1GW pipeline. It will retain a minority interest in the project, having secured a grid connection and planning permission for the BESS site with a focus on delivering biodiversity net gains.
Gigabox is a joint venture between Whirlwind Renewables, a Yorkshire based renewable energy developer, and Narec Distributed Energy, a commercial renewable energy and grid consultancy that has developed two other Scottish BESS.
In 2021, JLEN Environmental Assets Group Limited acquired 100% of an equity stake in Gigabox, investing £12.2 million in the developer’s West Gordie 50MW lithium-ion plant, which started commercial operations in 2023.
Clarke Energy is providing a 16-year full O&M agreement that will provide 24/7 performance monitoring and maintenance; Trina Storage is also providing performance guarantees for the Elementa units through the life of the project.
Adam Wray-Summerson, head of sustainable solutions at Clarke Energy, explained: “In wrapping Trina Storage Elementa BESS equipment in the overall EPC contract, Clarke Energy are helping to minimise delivery risk for our client and ensuring longevity of equipment performance throughout the life of the project.”
At the beginning of the year, Trina Storage provided four 2-hour duration Elementa 0.5P cabinets to be integrated into the Meadow (10MW), Sandon Brook (35MW), Fern Brook (20MW) and Birch (30MW) solar farms owned by Low Carbon.
